Other AVC 20

The Australian AVC 20

This beautifully built car now belongs to Jim Runciman from Australia. We don't know him or his car, so we are careful about what we write here, relying on photos and the facts that Colin Readey wrote down. The description of this car states that a Mr Gluckman bought the car from Colin Readey in 1986 as AVC 20. Unfortunately, this is not true. Colin Readey only sold his bent Harisson chassis from 1948 to Gluckman. Since not everyone will agree with this, we are showing some evidence here to prove it.

These descriptions prove that Colin Readey did not sell his AVC 20 race car to Mr Gluckman in 1986, but only the Harrison chassis. It is also interesting to note that the Australian AVC 20 now has a curved connection at the front again. Colin's car never had a curved connection. Apparently, when the chassis was repaired, a curved connection was installed to achieve the same look as in the early days.

The Italian AVC21

Colin Readey still had a lot of Riley spare parts in 2011. So he offered them for auction at Bonhams as a Riley project. To get a higher price, he declared this project as an AVC 20. This immediately sparked protests in the scene, so he had to stop the offer for the time being. It was later agreed that he could offer it, but had to call it AVC 21. The project was initially sold to Germany. After the new owner started a restoration, he soon sold it on to Italy. The new owner restored it in an exemplary manner. There is a nice video about this car on YouTube. This car may have some original AVC 20 parts. I would guess that this applies to the radiator in particular.

„The Ghost“

We have almost no information about this car. We found the two photos in Colin Readey's album. He writes ‘G`s Car, Nov 1986. Single Seater built for G including parts from AVC20 (body not built by Colin Readey)’. Unfortunately, we don't know which parts of the AVC 20 were used for this car. Do you know more?
